Poker Site Seizures

On April 15 2011 the FBI and DOJ seized the domain names of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and UB (UltimateBet). Poker players are calling this dark day is now called Black Friday. The charges vary from Bank Fraud, Money Laudering to violation of the UIGEA passed in 2006.

The response by the Poker Sites was to move their business to new foreign domains:

  • PokerStars.com became PokerStars.eu
  • FullTiltPoker.com became FullTiltPoker.co.uk
  • UB.com became UBPoker.eu
  • AbsolutePoker.com became AbsolutePoker.eu
As a result the fraud charges, the poker sites stopped accepting US poker players. There are still a few good and safe US friendly poker sites, but never keep too much money online.

As we near the 1 year anniversary of "Black Friday" the only room sill in existence is PokerStars and they are still the worlds largest poker room online. UB and Absolute completely folded and ran away. Full Tilt Poker has been sold to French company Groupe Bernard Tapie, but no players have ever been paid back their money. At this point online poker is legal in Nevada, we are just waiting for regulations to pass and hopefully more states will follow.
